Ecology Camp – June 1-6, 2020

Have you ever wondered what really happens to our trash when it leaves our house, or where the water that goes down the drain goes?  Have you ever wondered why certain plants/animals live in certain areas?  Are you interested in our own changing world?  During this fun-filled, adventurous, educational and inspirational week, we will look deeper at the relationships between creatures and their environment.  This will lead us to looking at humans and our own relationships to our environment.  We will look at the human impact on the world around us. We will also reflect on God’s presence in and through creation.  Activities include hiking, hands on learning the names of creatures and plants around camp, possible field trips to Waste Management sites and water reclamation and treatment sites, as well as all of our classic camp experiences (archery, high and low ropes, worship, etc).  We will apply what we learn to teach a group of Elementary campers later in the week.

This camp will be led by Rev. Misty Howick, who has a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, experience at an Outdoor School teaching Ecology and Environmental Ed, and an MDiv.

Senior High Ecology Camp is open to campers entering 9th through 12th grades (Fall 2020), plus seniors who just graduated (Spring 2020).  Campers will be housed in rustic cabins.

Spiritual Formation Camp – Creation’s Wisdom: Spirituality & Climate Change, June 22-27, 2020

The God of the Universe is ready to be personally known, yet the rapid pace (and change!) of life in our modern world seems to draw us away form the childlike faith and trust we might once have know. The new camp will guide senior high youth (those entering 9th-recently graduated seniors) into practices to help orient their hearts and souls to discover the peace and joy of connecting with God, even in a harried, heated world.  Each day will connect ancient Christian practices to modern life through the wisdom of the core “elements” of creation:  space, earth, air, fire, and water.

This unique camp will emulate the routine of a monastic community, combining periods of education and practice, silence, prayer and worship, and rest and recreation (along with familiar camp experiences).  The camp is for your desiring and ready to go deeper in their faith, those ready to move beyond “consuming” Christian programs and toward creating a connection with the divine presence of God. The camp is limited to only 24 campers, allowing us to utilize a single retreat cabin for our unique, immersive experience.

Spiritual Formation Camp will welcome special guest Rev. Daniel Wolpert to lead our daily experience. Dan, a Presbyterian minister, is co-founder and executive director of the Minnesota Institute of Contemplation and Healing (MICAHprays.org) and has  taught in numerous settings, including college campuses and at The Upper Room’s spiritual retreat, “The Academy for Spiritual Formation”.

Senior High Spiritual Formation Camp is open to campers entering 9th through 12th grades (Fall 2020), plus seniors who just graduated (Spring 2020).
